This article is for vendors who received an email from Accounts Payable with a virtual card and aren’t sure what to do with it.
What’s a virtual card and how do I use it?
A virtual card is a fast, secure way to get paid. It functions like a physical credit card, but without the plastic.
It's important to note that to process a virtual card, you must have a credit card processing device. This can either be a physical point-of-sale (POS) terminal, like the ones you find at the register in a store, or a virtual one that lets businesses process online or remote transactions, without the actual card.
The card is delivered via email, you can only process it once, and it must be for the total payment amount.
What are the benefits of a virtual card?
- Faster: Process the card anytime you want - 24/7 even on holidays or weekends. You’ll get instant authorization and receive payment according to your schedule–and not the banks.
- More secure: No need to share your bank details with your customers. You receive a digital card with a unique 16-digit number that only you can use.
