While virtual cards are simple and easy-to-use, there are a few limitations to consider.

For security reasons, virtual cards are issued for one-time payments for a specific amount and are subject to the following:

  1. 14-day expiry
Once issued, virtual cards have 14 days until expiring and can’t be processed after. Vendors will receive an email reminder 3 days before the card expires
  2. Amount entered must be identical to the card amount
The amount entered into the vendor's processing system must be identical to the payment amount. Otherwise, the card will fail to process.

IMPORTANT: To process the virtual card the vendor needs a point-of-sale terminal.

What happens if the vendor doesn't process the card within the 14-day time limit?
If the vendor hasn't processed the card within the time limit, it will expire. A new card can be issued.

Will my Capital One Business card still be charged if the vendor doesn’t process the virtual card in time?
No, you’re only charged when the virtual card is successfully processed.

Resending the payment
